Books for the Paleo Foodie
A beautifully designed e-book, with over 140 Paleo/AIP recipes from 37 bloggers, The Paleo AIP Instant Pot Cookbook makes navigating the AIP and your Instant Pot as easy as sealing the lid and pressing a button. This is a must have for any paleo foodie!
Jennifer Robbins of Predominately Paleo is known for revolutionizing the paleo world with things like Legit Grainfree Bread and yuca dough pizza. This Instant Pot cookbook won’t ship until January, but I know I wouldn’t mind a picture in my stocking until the real thing is released.
Dianne Sanfilippo’s Practical Paleo is known as the paleo bible. Part text book, part cook book, it’s the perfect combination of approachable information and easy real life recipes. It’s recently been released as a 2nd edition, with updated information & guides and new recipes & meal plans.
Who doesn’t need quick and healthy meal ideas? The latest installment of Melissa Joulwan’s Well Fed cookbook series brings you more than 125 flavorful and delicious meals on your table in 45 minutes or less. This book is a great gift for anyone looking to eat healthier while living a busy life, paleo or not.
The Autoimmune Wellness Handbook, by Mickey Trescott and Angie Alt of Autoimmune-Paleo.com, is a must have guide to living with autoimmune disease. This book takes it well beyond the plate, exploring all the factors that contribute to thriving with autoimmune condition.
Mark Sisson’s original Primal Blueprint helped to supercharge the Paleo and ancestral health movements and cemented Mark as the king of paleo. He’s spent the last six years researching and updating his revolutionary book, which was just released as the The New Primal Blueprint.
Sarah Ballantyne’s The Paleo Approach is the ultimate guide to the Autoimmune Protocol. Sarah breaks down the science behind autoimmune issues, lifestyle, and diet. This book paved the way for the AIP and is the ultimate reference for anyone on the autoimmune wellness journey.
The Flavor Bible, is a must have for any foodie. It was on last years list, and it will likely be on every future list I make. I couldn’t live without this book. This book is the ultimate reference for pairing flavors, creating dishes, and experimenting in the kitchen. Ingredients are listed in a giant index with lists of complimentary flavors and cooking methods.
The Professional Chef is a culinary textbook by the Culinary Institute of America. It’s a comprehensive guide to getting around the kitchen and would make a great companion for the new cook or die hard foodie. I recently picked this up for myself and haven’t been able to put it down. From science to technique to classic recipes, it covers it all.
Nom Nom Paleo Food for Humans is one of my all time favorite cook books. I think I even put it on last year’s list. The recipes are accompanied by gorgeous step by step photographs, that bring each recipe to life. It’s a great book for those learning to cook, as well as those die hard foodies that love to amp up their skills.
Kitchen Gadgets & Tools for the Paleo Foodie
If I had to choose one kitchen appliance to survive with for the rest of my life this would be it. Packed with 7 functions: pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, saute/browning, yogurt maker, steamer, & warmer; this little device does it all!
The Vitamix was one of the first investments I made when I adopted a paleo lifestyle and it’s more than paid me back. From doughs to soups to smoothies this blender is a workhorse. Opt for a refurbished model to save $$$ – it comes with the same great warranty!
Spiralized vegetables are one of our favorite meals. They are quick and tasty and incredibly convienent. They can also be prepped in advance, which saves even more time during the week. Spiralizers are relatively inexpensive ($30) and make an awesome gift for any home cook.
My cast iron pan collection is one of my most prized possessions. They are affordable, durable, and offer a non stick cooking surface that allows for even cooking and great flavor. They last forever (literally…they are commonly passed down generations) and can be used both on the stove top or in the oven.
Tell me this isn’t the coolest cutting board ever! I’m a little bit obsessive, especially when dicing vegetables so when I came across this board I did a little dance (and added it to my own christmas list!).
Cold brew coffee is all the rage. It boasts a smooth rich flavor that’s less acidic and bitter than traditionally brewed coffee. The OXO cold brew coffee maker makes the perfect gift for the coffee lover in your life; and is known for it’s ease of use…because noone wants to be fighting with a machine before having their coffee!
This is another great gift for the coffee lovers in your life – a hand blender is a must have for perfecting butter coffee and similar drinks. It’s also a great tool for any home cook, with attachments for blending, whisking, and dicing. I bring mine when traveling as it’s portable enough to throw in my suitcase.
I’ve had a series of bad knives in my life and it all changed when I gifted myself a Victorinox set earlier this year. They were like magic for my cooking skills and really cut down my time spent in the kitchen. No more sliding on onions and fighting with tomatoes – a must for anyone following a real food lifestyle.
Gifts for the Paleo Grill Master
Personalized gifts are always a winner. Marked Moments Keepsakes was kind enough to send me a personalized grilling set to check out and I love it. The tools are high quality and come tucked away in a beautifully engraved bamboo case. This is a great gift for a extra special man in your life.
This gift set includes high heat silicone gloves, super fun meat shredders, 3 ebooks, and a free silicone basting brush – a BBQ’ers dream.
I received this as a gift one year and loved it. A salt block is a great way to add flavor and experiment with new cooking options on the grill. It’s a luxury I would never buy myself, so it made for a wonderful gift!
Relaxation & Stress Reduction
Massage Gift Certificates and/or Membership
This year my husband and I bought ourselves massage memberships and it’s been one of the best things we’ve ever done for ourselves. We get a deep tissue massage at least once a month and absolutely love it. It’s helped both of us stay in better shape for hockey and ease pain. It’s also great for the soul. This makes a great gift for someone who could use a little slow down time.
Float Spa Gift Certificates and/or Membership
Like massage, sensory deprivation floating is great for relaxation, stress management, and pain relief. For many it’s also a novel experience, which makes it a really cool gift. My favorite spa, Sacred Floats & Gem Company, in Tampa is hosting specials through December.
My husband and I have been on a puzzle kick and it’s been incredibly therapeutic. It’s also an easy way to spend time together and makes the final piece even more special because we do it together. Puzzles make a fun inexpensive gift.
The Gift of Service
According to the 5 Love Languages many of us (myself included) prefer to receive love through service, instead of through gifts. Do you know someone who speaks the same language? Gift them a home cooked meal, laundry coupons, or some other household chore they dislike doing. If you’re my husband, you can detail my car 🙂
This seems like an odd one for stress reduction, but as someone who has recently fallen away from using my Passion Planner I can tell you first hand the impact that staying organized and setting goals has on stress and relaxation levels. The Passion Planner has a unique design that helps you connect to the things that matter to you while planning for your future and staying organized. With sections to record the best part of your week, reflect on the previous month’s progress, and tools to help you set goals it’s more than just a weekly planner.
Paleo Foodie Stocking Stuffers
Quality olive oil is like a fine wine and makes a perfect gift for those extra special foodies in your life. Kasandrinos has a bold, smooth flavor and is incredibly fresh – the last batch I purchased was on olive branches just weeks before it landed on my door step. It will not disappoint.
Available through their website and on Amazon, Primal Palate Spices are a perfect stocking stuffer for your favorite foodie. The Adobo, Cinnamon Sugar Cookie, Super Gyro, and Griddle and Grill Pack are my favorites. For you AIP folks, check out the Everyday AIP Pack. These are top quality organic spices with flavor combinations that make meal prep a cinch.
I may be a bit biased (I’m a Primal Kitchen Brand Ambassador) but any of their products would make excellent stocking stuffers. With a full line of condiments and protein bars, Primal Kitchen delivers quality food that really kicks up the convenience factor. Prior to PK Mayo hitting the shelves I fought endlessly with my immersion blender while trying to make my own. Never again.
Paleo people love quality fat, and there is no better quality than organic grassfed butter cooked down into super flavorful ghee. Tin Star is made in small batches and they also lab test to ensure that it’s lactose and casein free, which makes it a great option for those with dairy allergies. In addition to their traditional ghee, they offer a brown butter version which is cooked down longer to bring a toasted caramel note to the flavor.
Paleo on the Go Gift Card
After visiting their facilities a few months ago, I’ve been slightly obsessed with all things Paleo on the Go. These chef prepared paleo and AIP meals take all the stress out of meal prep. Great for those nights you just can’t cook, travel, or even as a special treat, these frozen Paleo meals would bring a smile to any one’s face! Hook your Paleo foodie up with a gift certificate and I guarantee they will love you forever! Did I mention they have AIP poptarts and Christmas cookies?
I have one of these on my fridge and use it all the time, especially on those foggy days where my brain just doesn’t work. Amazon has multiple varieties available, but I have a simple one similar to the one pictured. This is an inexpensive and practical gift that makes a perfect stocking stuffer.
I’ve resorted to writing my meal plan and shopping list directly on my fridge with a dry erase marker, but this makes for a much better option! I recently saw one posted in the AIP Support group and fell in love. Having my meal plan in one spot and visible helps me to stay on track with taking foods out of the freezer and getting things done efficiently.
I can’t have a gift list without a Squatty Potty. Last year my entire family received one and it was a huge hit. Nothing tells someone you love them like helping them poop better. It also makes for tons of laughs when opening presents. If you already have a squatty lover in your life, pick them up the newly released travel/portable squatty potty!
Yes, shoes with toes. I never thought I would jump into the minimalist footwear craze, but here I am. My husband and I both bought our first pair of Vibrams earlier this year and I don’t think we will ever go back. To my surprise they are incredibly comfortable and have helped reduce my sciatica and chronic ITBS pain. Feeling the ground beneath you as you walk can also be an incredibly grounding experience, something that I wasn’t quite expecting when I first made the transition.
